Grants of up to $8,000 to Ohio nonprofit organizations, churches, and government agencies for programs that enhance the quality of life of residents in eligible communities. Funding is intended for projects that improve individual health and well-being, build upon economic vitality, and support thriving communities. Eligible programs are those that benefit residents of Athens County.

For 2021-2022, the Athens County Foundation will be investing in projects that:

  • Build upon Economic Vitality: Build on our regional strengths and create a vibrant community where people want to live and work, and support an educated community. 
  • Support Thriving Communities: Become more livable, more self-sustainable, and create spaces for diverse voices to come together. Advances Anti-Racism
  • Focus on Individual Health and Wellbeing: Sustainable solutions for individuals and families to become secure. For example, food security, mental and physical health initiatives, and safety and advocacy efforts.

As of this Fall, the Foundation will consider grants applications that impact the following Fields of Interest:

  • Improve the quality of life for seniors 
  • Provide support for women and/or children 
  • Support education success for children 
  • Projects that reduce the carbon footprint 
  • Creative projects that enhance the quality of life and promotes inclusion/integration for adults with disabilities
  • Promotes and advances racial equity
  • Advances organizational resilience

Estimated Size of Grant:

Typical awards range from a few hundred dollars to up to $8,000.

Term of Contract:

Typically, grants need to be spent within one year of fund receipt. The Foundation will consider funding for programs/projects that can be completed within the 1-year timeline.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Athens County Foundation supports local nonprofit organizations that provide services to communities in Athens County. Grants are made to organizations, churches, and governments.

Grants will not be considered for the following purposes:
- Endowments
- Scholarships
- Religious purposes
- Political or legislative action groups
- Annual fundraising drives
