Grants of up to $50,000 to California and Ohio nonprofit organizations to promote the benefits of being in nature. Interested applicants must submit a letter of inquiry prior to submitting a full proposal. Successful proposals are immersive, incorporate unstructured or "free-play," are inquiry-based and use all the senses, and include multiple experiences in nature.

Using Nature to Heal the Soul: Research has shown that simply existing in nature can heal your soul and help you develop a sense of inner peace. Therefore, the Foundation invest in organizations that work to get people outdoors and in researchers working to understand the health benefits of time in nature.  Additionally, the Foundation supports those dedicated to preserving outdoor space for generations to come.

For the 2022-2026 Grant Cycle the Foundation looks to support organizations which use Nature to heal the soul. Additionally, the Foundation is interested in better understanding what it is about Nature that makes it so beneficial.

Successful grant applications clearly articulate how they are furthering the Foundation's mission including:

  • Immersive
  • Unstructured or “free-play”
  • Inquiry based, using all the senses
  • Longer term (multiple experiences in Nature)
  • Little to no technology/electronics

Requests for projects may be in the $5,000 to $50,000 range.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications are invited from non-profit or public benefit organizations.

Pre-Application Information:

Once the portal is open in the Spring, Letters of Inquiry may be submitted anytime until October 15th of each year.

- Letters of Inquiry are accepted anytime between April 15 and October 15.
- All Letters of Inquiry are processed after October 15 and are responded to by November 15.
- Applications are Due on or before January 15.
- Decisions will be made and grantees notified by mid-March.
- If Approved for a Grant, Complete the Progress and Completion Reports Progress/Completion reports are due October 15.
